On Wednesday June 22nd, I was asked to give a private one-on-one lesson PaintParty style with Yan Hong Wang, who is the sister of my acupuncturist, Dr. Nancy, from China.
Yan is an enthusiastic athlete and loves artistic pursuits, doing some traditional Chinese folk art with Sumi brushes on parchment, very controlled and methodical. Her sister Nancy is a big fan of PaintPartyColumbus and wanted Yan to have the PPC experience, which teaches form and color with no drawing at all, only paint and brush, a completely different approach for her to experience.
What was especially unique is Yan does not speak a word of English and of course, my Chinese language skills are non existent. I should mention also that Yan was the GOLD MEDAL WINNER at the 2004 Special Olympics in Athens for Archery!
We set up side by side at Dr. Nancy's office desk where I set the easels, brushes and plates with all the colors. What took place then was amazing! She followed my exact moves with mixing the colors, application of paint, choice of brushes as she was right next to me and could clearly see my demonstration. Within a few hours we completed the painting much to the delight of Dr. Nancy and her assistants.
When we are shown how to, in a close up real time environment, the results are quite remarkable. Here's to more cultural exchanges and good vibrations through the excitement of creativity!
